30 injured in Shopian, Kulgam clashes

Shopian: At least 20 persons, mostly youth sustained injuries during the clashes between youth and forces that erupted after forces launched a Cordon and Search operation (CASO) in Dreed-Kali Pora village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday.
Eleven people also sustained injuries during clashes at RedwaniKulgam.
A joint CASO was launched in Dreed-Kali pora village of Shopian at around 11:30 am following the inputs about the presence of militants there.
Sources said that after receiving inputs, forces cordoned off the area and started a door to door search operation.
However, sources said that as soon as news of search operation spread in the area, the locals mostly youth took to the streets at DK Pora and its adjoining areas and started pelting stones on the forces.
They said that the forces retaliated with tear smoke, sound shells and also used pellet guns to disperse the agitating youth, resulting in injuries to over 20 persons mostly youth.
Hospital sources confirmed that 20 injured persons were brought to PHC DK Pora, most of them with pellet injuries.
Among 20 injured persons, three were referred to Srinagar’s SMHS hospital while as three persons with pellet injuries were taken to District Hospital Shopian from where two were referred to SMHS Srinagar.
Locals alleged that forces also vandalized properties during the search operation.
They damaged window panes and glasses of dozens of houses and vehicles, the locals said.
CASO launched in Kulgam village, clashes erupt
Meanwhile, clashes between forces and angry youth were also reported from GhatKhudwani area of Kulgam after government forces launched an anti militancy operation in the area on Saturday afternoon.
Government forces including 1 RR of Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police and CRPF laid the cordon after receiving specific inputs about the presence of militants in the area.
“The Operation was called off after troopers conducted Search Operations for nearly 9 hours, but nothing was found,” sources said.
As the news of search operation spread in the area, youth took to streets and pelted stones on government forces which was retaliated by tear smoke shells and pellet firing resulting in injuries to about one dozen persons.
Block Medical Officer, QaimohGowhar Abbas said that 11 persons with pellet injuries were treated at Qaimoh while as one was shifted to District hospital Anantnag for advanced treatment.
Meanwhile, hospital sources in SMHS said that four person who were hit by pellet in eye were admitted at the hospital for advanced treatment, who were identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad (25) S/O Bashir Ahmad R/O D. H. Pora, Kulgam, Touseef Ahmad (18) S/O Bashir Ahmad R/O Shopian, Altamash Manzoor (14) S/O Manzoor Ahmad R/O Kulgam, Fatima (50) W/O Gh. Mohiudin R/O DamhalHanjipora, Nisar Ahmad Wagay (25) S/O Abdul Satar R/O Redwani, Kulgam. All are said to be stable.
Officials said that the rest of the injured are being treated at PHC DK Pora.
