Says strict action to follow incase professors stay away from exam duty

Srinagar: The J&K government Friday warned the college professors of administrative action for their refusal to undertake exam related duties at their respective colleges.
The circular in this regard was issued on Friday by director colleges J&K, Zahoor Ahmad Chatt.
“It has been brought to the notice of administrative department that some faculty members refuse to undertake examination related activities, putting the college administration into a difficult situation,” the circular reads.
The circular stated that any dereliction in the performance of these duties by any faculty member shall warrant administrative action under service rules.
“It is reiterated that teaching, evaluation and extension have been recognized as essential activities to be performed by faculty associated with higher education institutions,” reads the circular.
An official in the higher education department said the professors in various colleges were showing reluctance in participating in any of the exam related activities creating hurdles in conducting the college exams smoothly.
“The matter was taken up with the Professors number of times by respective college principals but the professors didn’t mend their ways,” the official said.
He said the instructions were issued from the administrative department of higher education to warn the college professors of action if they show any reluctance in undertaking exam duty.
“Most of them want to keep themselves busy in private tuitions and stay aloof from college activities, which has annoyed the higher ups,” the official said.
Director colleges Zahooor Ahmad Chattt said the department will closely monitor the behavior of professors in their colleges.
“And if any of the professors didn’t undertake exam duty, the report will be submitted to administrative department for action under rules,” he said, adding that exams are part of college activities and the faculty can’t do away with it.
Meanwhile, a top official said the similar complaints are pouring in from Kashmir University (KU) against the faculty members for refusing to undertake the exam related duties.
“The issue has come into the notice of the government and will be taken up with university authorities,” he said.
