Srinagar: The shutdown call given by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik on Thursday evoked a mixed response in the Valley.
The vehicular movement in most parts of the Valley was witnessed while as the shops in most of the commercial areas remained closed throughout the day.
Unlike other days of shutdown, no restrictions were put in place today by the authorities, therefore fair vehicular movement was witnessed in Old city areas too.
However, witnesses said that a huge deployment of police and paramilitary troopers was made on the roads in Srinagar areas.
All the shops and business establishments and petrol pumps remained closed in the city centre of Lal Chowk and other adjacent areas while as the shops in several other areas including Lal Bazar, Alamgari Bazar, Zadibal and others remained open.
However, unlike Srinagar, the southern districts observed a complete shutdown.
The traffic was also off the roads throughout the day in southern districts, reports said.
In northern districts, the shutdown call also evoked mixed response as the traffic was plying normally throughout the day.
Earlier, JRL had called for a complete shutdown across the valley against the killing of slain militant, Sabzar Ahmad Sofi who along with his associate, Asif Ahmad was killed in Nowgam gunfight.
Meanwhile, reports said that minor clashes also erupted in Srinagar areas during which forces used tear gas canisters to disperse the agitating youth.
