Relieve doctors deputed to GMCs: DAK
Srinagar: To ease the burden on rural hospitals, Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Tuesday demanded major reshuffle and immediate transfer of all the 480 doctors who have been deputed to government medical colleges from directorate health services Jammu and Kashmir divisions for years now.
These 480 doctors who have occupied medical officers posts of rural health care, are enjoying in medical colleges with extra city allowances, HRA and NPA for years now without much responsibility on their shoulders, DAK said in a statement issued here.
“The medical officers and consultants who are having political or bureaucratic clout have been posted to these medical colleges for years together and doctors who bereft of any clout are thrown to Uri, Tanghdhar, Lolab , Hoon Hang, kapran etc,” said president DAK Dr Suhail Naik.
“There is standing government order where in it is mandatory for a doctor to serve in rural areas to strengthen rural health centres in far-flung areas in the state . But ironically, the said order was never implemented on the ground after most of the blue eyed doctors managed their postings in various hospitals of Srinagar and Jammu districts,” he said.
To strengthen the understaffed rural health care centres in far-flung areas in Jammu and Kashmir, this pool of more than 400 doctors must be immediately relieved to their parent department, Dr Naik added.
Furthermore, Government medical colleges can appoint this pool of 480 doctors on contractual basis and with the result unemployed doctors will get job simultaneously.
General secretary DAK, Dr Owais H Dar said it is very important to transfer all overstaying doctors.
It is very imperative to transfer all those doctors who have never served in rural areas and doctors who have worked for decades in far flung areas must be transferred back as they all are now psychologically perturbed, he said.
Dr Mir Mushtaq, Senior DAK executive said that Rural Health Care System in J&K is facing dearth of almost 50 percent manpower, especially doctors. Therefore government must relieve all those medical officers and consultant doctors who have been deputed to government medical colleges for decades altogether and resulting the rural health to suffer.
