Srinagar: Two militants were killed in a brief exchange of fire in North Kashmir’s Baramulla town on Friday afternoon, police said.
Police said that two militants fired upon a naka party near Kralhal Railway Track creating panic in the area. The forces personnel retaliated, killing two militants on the spot.
A police spokesperson in a statement said that at about 13:30 hours one Scorpio vehicle bearing registration number JK 01 L5792 coming from Srinagar was signaled to stop at Naka near Kralhar, Baramulla manned by a joint team of Police and paramilitary forces.
“While being checked two militants boarding the vehicle fired upon forces party. In the brief exchange of fire both the militants got killed and one policeman received minor injuries,” the statement said.
“The following Arms ammunition was recovered from the possession of killed militants. AK Series Rife 01 No, AK Magzine 01 No, UBGL 01 No, Pistol (Chinese) 02 Nos, Pistol Magazines 06 Nos, AK rounds. 19 Nos, Pistol rounds 52, Grenade 03 Nos, UBGL Grenade -02 Nos,” said the police spokesman.
He said that a case under FIR No 176/2008 was registered in Police Station Baramulla and investigation have been taken up.
“The driver of the vehicle has been arrested and the vehicle has been seized,” the police added.
Meanwhile, army has said that it has retrived the dead bodies of the three militants killed in Rampur area along Line of Control in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Srinagar based Defense spokesperson Colonel Rajesh Kalia said that alert army soldiers foiled an infiltration bid at Pathra Rampur area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday night.
“A group of infiltrators tried to cross this part of Kashmir. They opened fire after being challenged by soldiers. In the ensuing gun battle, three infiltrators were killed,” he said adding that operation is in progress as there may be more infiltrators present in the area.
