Forces thrash Journos, photo journalists at encounter site

Srinagar: Government forces on Wednesday thrashed several TV reporters and their video journalists besides some photographers who were at the spot covering the encounter in Fatehkadal area of the city.
Witnesses said that troops started beating Asif Qureshi, Manzoor Mir, Arshid (Videographer),Waseem Andrabi, Qazi Irshad, Basit Zarger and others without any reason or rhyme.
The journos were beaten mercilessly and that too in front of the officers who were monitoring the encounter that was raging in the area.
Meanwhile, Kashmir Press club (KPC) has condemned the thrashing of journalists at the encounter site in Srinagar by the police.
“Many reporters and photo journalists were beaten up while they were delivering their professional duties this morning. One of the injured journalist is also a member of the executive team of KPC,” KPS said in a statement issued here.
It is also being reported that the thrashing took place right in front of senior police officers, the statement said.
The KPC has expressed shock over this behaviour by the forces. It hopes that the state administration will take a note of this and act, the statement added.
