Asks workers to deposit an undertaking to use uniforms during duty hours

Srinagar: Finally, the authorities in Kashmir University (KU) have woke to the mismanagement of funds utilized on the uniforms and other accessories provided to the class IV employees recruited in the varsity over the past many years.
On Saturday, the varsity authorities issued a circular wherein it asked all the class IV employees to give an undertaking to the administration that they will judiciously use the equipments and uniform provided to them by the varsity every year.
The circular has been issued prior to the disbursement of uniforms among these helpers and class IV employees of the university this year.
“All those Class-IV employees and helpers to whom uniform is to be issued as per policy in vogue are hereby directed to submit an undertaking before issuance of uniform and other allied accessories, to the effect, that they will properly put on the uniform within the campus of the University during duty hours,” reads a circular issued by assistant register in general administration of the Kashmir University.
As per the official figures around 1200 class IV employees are engaged in the varsity for past many years who are provided two uniform sets each in a year besides other equipments for their use in the campus.
“One set of uniform is given in summers and one in winter besides separate pair of shoes as well. The average cost for the two uniform sets and shoes is RS 2500,” the official said, adding that the annual expenditure tunes up to Rs 30 lakhs.
The official said the class IV employees earlier used to take the uniform and distribute it among relatives or keep it reserved for other purposes at home. “They would not wear this uniform in the campus,” he said.
Meanwhile, the KU administration has decided that no uniform and allied accessories will be issued to those officials, who fail to submit the undertaking within a period of five days.
“If the circular is implemented on ground it will pave way for judicious use of funds as well as earlier the funds meant for purchase of uniform for class IV employees were misappropriated by some officials who were in league with these class IV employees,” the official said.
