Says south Kashmir should learn lesson from north Kashmir

Srinagar: A senior army commander on Saturday raised a storm by appreciating people of north Kashmir for not siding with the militants.
Gen AK Bhat said that the militancy is on a decline in Kashmir including southern parts of Kashmir.
“Militancy is decreasing each passing day in south Kashmir as well. South must learn from North Kashmir,” he said. “North Kashmir hasn’t given shelter to militants,” he said and thanked the people of northern Kashmir.
“From 1947, these people have given us full support, we will try our best to help these people and recruit more and more boys from this area,” Gen Bhatt said during a closing ceremony of 15 day-long Public Mela at Keran in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
The general said that it won’t take the army much time to “eliminate militancy from ground zero across Jammu and Kashmir.
“Our forces have always overpowered the militants and will continue to do so in future,” he said.
Bhatt said that the biggest challenge for the army and other security agencies including Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF has been the growing trend among the youth towards joining the militant ranks.
“Our primary agenda is to eliminate and give chance to local youth to join mainstream and live in amity in this country,” he said.
The General said that more than 250 militants are ready to infiltrate into this side of Line of Control at different launch pads in Pakistan.
“Around 300 militants are active in the valley and more than 250 militants are ready to infiltrate into this side of LoC but our soldiers are ready to foil their attempts,” said Gen Bhatt.
He said that there will be more infiltration attempts in the winter months. “…but our forces are vigilant to foil all these attempts,” he said.
When asked about the upcoming elections, he said, “With the help of police and CRPF, our soldiers are working round the clock to make the election successful.”
