Kashmiri student ‘thrashed’ in UP College

Srinagar: A Kashmir student was injured after he was ruthlessly beaten by a group of students at Sharda University in Greater Noida area of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.
A student said that Ahtisham who is pursuing bachelors in Medical Imaging Technology (BMIT) was admitted at Sharda hospital by Afghan students after he was thrashed by some local students.
The student said that Ahtisham, a first year student was injured when a scuffle broke out between the local and Afghani students on the university campus. “A group of students ruthlessly beat up Ahtesham, leaving him badly injured,” he said.
“Ahtisham was beaten so severely that even blood oozed out from his nose and mouth.”
Following the attack on Ahtisham, the Kashmiri students are feeling insecure in the varsity.
Another student said the local students were asking them to show their identities. “We have kept ourselves confined to the varsity premises. We are not feeling safe in Shardah University now,” he said.
Meanwhile, the authorities in the varsity tried to downplay the incident and termed it a “minor scuffle” between the two groups.
“The student (Ahtisham) has suffered minor injuries and is stable,” an official of the varsity said.
About any action taken against the erring students who beat up the Kashmiri student, the official said that police was on spot when the incident took place.
Meanwhile, a top police official of Greater Noida Ist said they didn’t receive any written application from any of the students.
“No written complaint has been received from the university. Action will follow after we receive a complaint from the students or university,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Kashmiri students complained that they were being continuously harassed by the local students which have created apprehensions of further attacks on them.
“We are feeling insecure here, neither police nor the university has taken the attack on Kashmiri student seriously,” said one of the student.
Meanwhile, parents of the Kashmiri students enrolled in Sharda University urged the state government for its intervention to ensure safety of their kids in the university.
