Students raise pro-freedom, pro Zakir Musa slogans

Srinagar: Chaos and confusion reigned the annual day function organized at the Sheri Kashmir University of Agriculture and Science and Technology, (SKUAST) as the students resorted to pro Zakir Musa and pro-freedom sloganeering.
Reports said that as the vice chancellor SKUAST-K entered the auditorium of the varsity which was the venue for the function, dozens of students sitting at the back benches stood up and started shouting slogans which disrupted the proceedings.
Though the moderator tried to silence the students but the agitated students disrupted the function at the beginning leaving the varsity authorities embarrassed.
As the students took their seats, the vice chancellor SKUAST-K declared the function open for the day and handed over the stage to the dean of the university.
But, the students’ disruption didn’t stop here. As the dean SKUAST-K began to read the university report wherein he wanted to share the achievements of the varsity, the students again resorted to pro Zakir Musa and pro freedonm sloganeering forcing dean SUAST-K to cut short his speech.
The students shouted ‘Musa Musa, Zakir Musa’ and ‘We want Freedom’ in the auditorium creating panic in the campus.
As the students sloganeering gained momentum, the vice-chancellor refused to come on the stage for his inaugural address and signaled the concerned to start the performances which somehow shifted the focus of the audiences.
Pertinently, the Vice Chancellor (VC) SKUAST-K was the chief guest on the occasion while no officer from Governor’s office was invited for the function.
During the proceedings, the students from various departments presented various performances on the stage include Kashmiri Rouf and other cultural programmes.
Later, VC in his address said the objective of annual day was to give students an opportunity to showcase their talent in art, singing, folk dance, painting and other activities.
“The presence of renowned artists and distinguished sports personals of the valley would be an inspiration to the participating students,” he said while referring to the guests who were present in the function.
During the function, the students had drawn colorful Rangoli patterns- a traditional decoration art and patterns made with different colors, particularly during festivals.
During the annual day celebrations, students presented various cultural and musical programs to enthrall the audience. The jam packed auditorium witnesses huge applauses and standing ovations to the performances of the students.
Among others present at the occasion were, Zareef Ahmad Zareef, Waheed Jeelani, Raies Mohi-ud-Din and others also performed at the occasion and added flavor to the celebrations.
