Say their wages have not been paid since two years

Srinagar: Hundreds of daily wagers working with the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department and their children on Tuesday protested in the summer capital, Srinagar, demanding wages pending from the last two years.

Holding placards, which read, ‘Governor Sahib, I don’t have school fee because I am PHE daily wagers’s child’, ‘Release my father’s wages so that we can live a normal life’, besides other slogans, the PHE daily wagers and their children held a protest at Partap park in Srinagar.

Shouting slogans in favour of their demands, the protestors demanded release of their wages at the earliest and also demanded benefits of the seventh pay commission.

“Our wages are pending from the past 21 months. Our children are being rusticated from schools because of non-payment of fees. Our families are getting ruined due to financial problems… when is the government going to understand our problems and release our wages,” a protesting PHE daily wager said.

“You can understand our desperation by the fact that we were forced to make our children hit the streets with us to protest, when they should be in schools,” he said, adding if their demands were not fulfilled they will intensify their protests.
