Injured cop shifted to Delhi for ‘specialized’ treatment

Srinagar: Even after repeated assurances from the doctors at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura, that the injured police officer can be treated here, police on Saturday preferred to shift the injured Station House Officer (SHO) to New Delhi for specialized treatment.

SHO of Police Station Nigeen, Manzoor Ahmad a resident of Aluchi Bagh Srinagar was badly injured during the clashes on the banks of Dal when a stone hurled by protesting youth on the police vehicle he was travelling in, hit him on head, inflicting serious injuries.

Sources within SKIMS told ‘Kashmir Vision’ that the doctors at SKIMS repeatedly assured the police department that the injured police official can be treated at SKIMS without any hassles, however the police were adamant to airlift him to New Delhi.

“A specialized team of doctors from different hospital including SKIMS examined the patient thoroughly, and were of the opinion that he can be treated here without any difficulty, but they did not listen and airlifted him to Delhi on Saturday,” the sources said.

The sources further stated that injuries such as those of the SHO are being treated day in a day out at the institution, however, police after bringing him to SKIMS after he was undergoing treatment at Police Hospital Srinagar, Saturday decided to shift him to Delhi.

“The area around his eye and even the eye was badly damaged due to the stone that hit him. The injury though grave, could have been treated at the hospital,” the sources said, adding “There was not any tangible reason to shift him, but at the hospital authorities couldn’t force them to let him stay.”

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Imtiyaz Ismail while confirming the SHO was airlifted to New Delhi said that he has been taken to Delhi for specialized treatment.

“Yes, we have airlifted him to Delhi on Saturday afternoon for the specialized treatment,” SSP said while talking to ‘Kashmir Vision’.

“He was taken to SKIMS after he was admitted at Police Hospital Srinagar, and after that we decided to shift him to Delhi on Saturday,” he said further.

Without divulging any further details regarding the reason behind shifting the injured SHO to Delhi, SSP Imtiyaz Ismail, however said that his condition is stable as of now and he is in a good condition.

“He is fine and stable as of now,” he said.

When asked if the police have identified those who hurled the stone during clashes, the SSP said that the an investigation in this matter is being carried out.

“We have initiated an investigation into the matter and it is in on as now,” he said without mentioning if any arrests have been made so for or not.
