Srinagar: A complete shutdown is being observed on the fifth consecutive day Saturday at Kangan area of central Kashmir’s  Ganderbal district against the killing of a youth in forces’ action.

Gowhar Ahmad Rather son of Abdul Rehman Rather from Kangan, who was admitted at SKIMS Soura after he was critically injured on Monday evening, succumbed on last Tuesday.

All the shops, business establishments, government and private offices remained closed in the area and traffic is off the roads.

Fearing protests a large number of forces have been deployed at several locations in the town.

Pertinently, Police had said that no firearms were used during the clashes that erupted in the area, and maintained that Gowhar fell down and injured himself while police were chasing the protestors.

However, the medical records stated that there were multiple grave injuries in his head with particles of foreign body also penetrating his skull raising eyebrows over the police claims following which a Magisterial enquiry has been ordered into Gowhar’s killing in order to ‘ascertain the circumstances’ that led to his death.
