Srinagar: The 20 years-old youth Muhammad Amir, hailing from Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, whose condition was said to be critical on Wednesday, is said to have improved considerably, hospital sources said.

Though the youth continues to be under continuous observation he is still being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at SKIMS, Soura.

Pertinently, Amir had sustained head injuries during the clashes that broke out in the area after the death of Gowhar Ahmad Rather on Tuesday, who had also suffered grave injuries in the head during the retaliatory action by the forces in the area.

On Wednesday, Amir’s condition was said to be critical, however, officials on Thursday said that his condition has improved considerably, but he is still in the ICU, where his condition is being monitored.

While talking to ‘Kashmir Vision’, Medical Superintended SKIMS, Dr Farooq Jan said that Amir’s condition has improved compared to Wednesday.

“His condition is being monitored continuously, and it has been observed that his condition has improved considerably compared to yesterday,” Dr Jan said.

Amir had sustained several fractures in his skull and on Wednesday the doctors had said that he has endured Extradural Haemorrhage, which is associated with a history of head trauma and frequently associated skull fracture.

“Extradural Haematomas are seen in patients who have sustained head trauma, usually with an associated skull fracture,” a doctor said.

The medicos, even the Medical Superintendent SKIMS, did not confirm whether Amir was hit by a teargas shell or pellets. However, the medicos maintained that there are multiple fractures in his skull that has caused severe internal bleeding.

Pertinently, the government has also ordered a magisterial enquiry into the death of Gowhar Ahmad Rather, who died on Tuesday, with police initiating a departmental enquiry to ascertain the facts.

On Wednesday police suspended a constable Gulzar Ahmad (belt no. 422/Gbl) in the case: FIR No. 18/2018 u/s 307 RPC Selection Grade Constable, however, the enquiry in this matter is still pending.
