Frenzied scenes witnessed at SMHS

Srinagar: Chaotic scenes were witnessed at Shri Maharana Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital on Thursday when injured students, boys as well as girls were brought in for treatment.

Wearing uniforms, several girls were seen lying on stretchers with injury marks on their arms and face, while some were lying unconscious with doctors seen busy in attending to them.

As per sources several injured were brought to SMHS from Govt Degree College (GDC), Bemina and Islamia College of Science and Commerce, Hawal. Several injuries were also reported from Amar Singh College.

The doctors attending to the emergency cases at SMSH said that several students were brought in with pellet injuries, though the injuries were said not to be ‘so grave.’

“At least 9 to 10 injured students were brought to the hospital, which includes several girls hit by pellets,” said a doctor at SMHS.

One of the students accompanying his female classmate to SMSH said that the forces entered into the college campus at GDC, Bemina and fired tear smoke shells and pellets indiscriminately, injuring many.

“They entered into the campus and wrecked havoc. The girl I am accompanying was injured when she was initially pushed and then later kicked by security persons who were manning the lanes of the campus during the protests,” she said.

The girl was immediately referred to SMHS and was undergoing treatment, where she is said to be in stable condition and is said to have sustained minor injuries during the clashes.

Doctors stationed at emergency department of SMSH said that 6-7 students had pellet injuries, the injuries have been termed as to be ‘not so grave.’

“Several students, including some girls were brought in with pellet injuries on their bodies, while some were having injuries on their faces, however, there were no grave injuries, whatsoever during the day,” a doctor wishing not be named, said.

Medical Superintendent, SMHS Dr Saleem Tak did not respond to the repeated calls from this reporter.
