5 booked for opium cultivation in Rajouri

Jammu: Five persons were booked for cultivation of opium crop in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, police said.

Police team from Darhal, headed by sub divisional police officer Thanamandi, Iftikar A Chowdhary and station house officer Habib Pathan received specific inputs about cultivation of opium crop in some fields, following which a special team was deputed, a police official said.

The crop was grown in the fields of Chowkian and Dodaj villages and five local residents, including Mohd Ikhlaq, Abdul Majeed, Haji Ghulam Rasool and Mohd Shakoor, all residents of Dodaj Darhal and Mohd Sakal of Chowkian Darhal, were booked, he said.

“Today, teams of police, along with revenue staff, raided in the said areas and after hours long operations, succeeded in destroying the opium crop,” the official said.

A case has been registered against the accused and efforts are on to nab them, he said.PTI
