Valley mourns Shopian killings
Srinagar: A complete shutdown was observed across the Valley on Monday while the authorities imposed restrictions in Srinagar parts and Kulgam town to thwart any possible protests against the Shopian and Anantnag carnage.
Over a dozen people including 13 militants, four civilians and three soldiers were killed in southern districts during the encounters that raged between forces and militants on Sunday.
Reports said that restrictions were imposed by the authorities in Srinagar parts and Kulgam town to thwart any possible against the killings.
Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) had also called for complete shutdown on Tuesday against the Shopian carnage.
However, in response of the shutdown call, district administration Srinagar imposed restrictions under Section 144 CrPC in the areas falling under the jurisdiction of seven police station including Rainawari, Khanyar, Nowhatta, Safakadal, M R Gunj, Maisuma and Kralkhud.
An official said that partial restrictions were imposed in areas falling under the jurisdiction of Maisuma and Kral Khud police station.
Witnesses said that all the roads leading towards the restriction bound areas were sealed by the forces by erecting temporary barricades on every exit and entry points.
They said that the forces personnel deployed on the roads were not allowing the pedestrians as well as the commuters to pass through the restriction bound areas.
Meanwhile, following the call given by JRL, a complete shutdown was observed in across the Valley including Banihal and its adjacent areas to protest against the carnage in Kashmir.
All the shops, business establishments and petrol pumps remained closed while the traffic was also off the roads throughout the day.
Besides, all the colleges and schools across the Valley remained closed today.
Authorities on Sunday ordered closure of schools and colleges in view of the prevailing situation across the Valley.
Kashmir University, Central University Kashmir and Islamic University of Science and Technology had also suspended classes and postponed examinations scheduled for today, the officials said.
Besides, mobile internet services barring few districts continued to remain suspended in the Valley. The train services was also suspended in the Valley as part of security measure.
