8 including top commanders killed in south Kashmir gunfights

Srinagar: Eight militants including top commanders have been killed in two separate encounters with government forces in Anantnag and Shopian districts of south Kashmir, police said.

Director General of Police (DGP) SP Vaid on Sunday said that eight militants, including top commanders, were killed in two gunfights with forces in Anantnag and Shopian districts of south Kashmir.

“Seven bodies of militants have been recovered from the site of a gunfight with forces in Dragad village”, Vaid tweeted.

“One terrorist killed in Dialgam Anantnag after efforts of his family/ J&K Police failed to surrender, one caught alive. In Draggad Shopian 7 bodies of terrorists recovered including top commanders,” tweeted Vaid.

Pertinently, the gunfights had rattled twin villages of South Kashmir’s Shopian district in dead of night, sources said.

Official sources said that after receiving specific inputs about the presence of militants 34 RR,  CRPF and Shopian police cordoned off Kachdoora village Shopian district where the gunfight is underway and reportedly three army men have been injured.

Meanwhile, in another operation 44 RR,  CRPF  and Zainpora police cordoned off Dragad area of Sugan village after receiving inputs that a group of militants are hiding in the area.

Sources that as soon as forces cordoned off the area, militants hiding there fired upon them which was retaliated triggered encounter.

Pertinently earlier one newly recruited militant was killed and another was captured alive in an encounter with government forces at Iqbal colony Dialgam area of Anantnag district.
