‘Militant recruit’ turns out to be a shopkeeper: Police

Srinagar:  Police on Wednesday clarified that a man who was described as a new militant recruit on various social media platforms is a respectable citizen running a shop in Beehama area of Ganderbal and has not joined any militant outfit.

A spokesman of police said that today a photograph of a shopkeeper from Ganderbal was circulated on various social media platforms with the intent to cause fear and alarm to the public describing him as a new militant recruit. On verification, it turned out to be a mischief.

“On verification it was found that the said person is a respectable citizen and is running a shop in Beehama area of Ganderbal. The family of the said person was in stress after this fake news appeared on social media” police official said.

“The family has been assured of assistance and in this matter a case FIR No. 46/2018 under section 505, 153 RPC has been registered and investigation in the matter has been taken p,” the official said adding that strict action will be taken against the rumour mongers who are trying to disrupt the ‘peaceful’ atmosphere in the valley.
