‘Suspicious movement’ alerts troops in Jammu, Rajouri

Jammu: The Army and the police launched a massive search operation near the Tawi river area in Jammu city after locals reported about two people roaming around suspiciously, police said. Troops also carried out a search operation in the border villages Rajouri district.

“We have launched a search operation on the Tawi banks and the Bhagwati Nagar belt of the city after locals reported suspicious movement of two people early this morning,” SP (Rural) Shivdeep Singh said.

The unidentified individuals, dressed in Army uniform, were spotted in the area asking for directions to the city, he said.

The officer further said the duo attempted in vain to place a call using a mobile phone of a local.

After the incident was reported to the nearest Army unit, a joint search operation was launched in the area, Singh said.

Security was beefed up in and around Yatri Bhavan, some two kilometre from Bhagwati Nagar, the SP said.

Notably, film director Vidhu Vinod Chopra was shooting for a film close to the spot of the search operation.

Meanwhile, forces launched a search operation in the border villages of Rajouri district, police said.

The search operation was being conducted in border areas in the Sunderbani area after receiving reports about suspicious movement today, the police officials said.

The Army and the police had launched a search operation along the LoC in Sunderbani on January 23 following inputs about the suspected movement of armed persons in the area. (PTI)
