Illegal timber seized in Rafiabad

Rafiabad: A Tipper carrying illegal timber worth Rs lakhs was seized from North Kashmir’s Rafiabad area during an operation conducted by forest department on Tuesday.

According to forest Range officer Rafiabad on a specific information regarding the supply of illegal timber in the area, he along with Block forest officers of Balhama, Dalri and Payeen with staff of forest control room Rafiabad laid a naka at Buddann Rafiabad during intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

“Consequently illegal timber which was being carried from Buddan area of Rafiabad in a four wheeler vehicle (Tipper) bearing number JK02G-5722,  which was seized” , the official said.

“The tipper was carrying 49.91 cfts of illegal timber which was cut-down illegally from forest areas of Rafiabad” , DFO Langate forest division Mohammad Ayub Pandith said while adding that driver of the vehicle managed to escape from the spot.

A case in this regard has been registered in police station Dangiwacha, he further said.
