Sopore: Scores of residents from Watergam and Shangergund areas of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday staged protest against the Power development Department (PDD)  for failing to provide adequate electricity to them.

The protesting residents blocked Sopore-Kupwara road at Shangergund to protest against the power crisis they are facing from past few weeks. They shouted slogans against the government  and demanded immediate redressal of their grievances.

The blockade of the highway also resulted in the massive traffic mess in the area.

The protesters blamed the administration for not redressing their grievances.

“We are facing tremendous hardships due to the power crisis. Despite being the industrial area, the authorities have failed to restore electric wires and electric pools in the area,” Reyaz Ahmed told Kashmir Vision.

He said that they approached to the higher ups in this regard but unfortunately nothing has been done in this regard.
