Funeral prayers in absentia held for slain militants

Anantnag: A large number of people on Saturday offered funeral prayers in absentia for the two militants who were killed in an encounter in Dooru area.

Witnesses said that thousands of people has assembled in Khargund as speculations were rife that a local militant Asif Naseer Malik has been trapped in the encounter following which the people living in the village and its adjacent areas had gathered outside the house of Aasif.

After the identification of slain militants, the people who had gathered outside Aasif’s residence offered funeral prayers in absentia.

Eyewitnesses informed ‘Kashmir Vision’ that people from many areas of South Kashmir had come to attend the funeral of Asif. However, the people later offered prayers in absentia for the two slain JeM militants.

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed in many parts of Anantnag and some parts of Kulgam to mourn the militant killings.

Witnesses said that most of the shops and business establishments remained closed in main town Anantnag, Dialgam, Dooru, Larkipora, Kokernag and many other parts of the South Kashmir.

Meanwhile, clashes erupted near encounter site, Dialgam, Kulgam, Lower Munda Qazigund and many other places, where youth pelted stones to enforce shutdown on government forces who were deployed in the area.

Witnesses said that forces used tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters.

They said that the pitching battle between the agitating and forces continued for hours in these areas.

However, no injury was reported during the incident.
