Corporal punishment: Edu deptt to bear expenses for treatment of student beaten by teacher

Srinagar: Minister for Education and Finance, Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari Saturday expressed sympathy with student of 4th class, Faisal Ahmad Lone of BMS Kroein, Uri who was allegedly beaten by a teacher due to which his eye was severely damaged.

In this context, Director School Education Kashmir Dr. G.N. Itoo visited the SMHS hospital and enquired about the health and treatment of the child.

Talking to the child and his parents, DSEK assured them that the Department will bear all the expenses for the treatment of the affected child.

He said that Department has already suspended the said teacher and enquiry has been ordered in this regard. Dir Edu added that the committee will submit the report within three days.

DSEK appealed the teachers that “children are our fidelity and we should safeguard them and maintain the trust of the parents. The teachers should make sure the safeguard of students in any case and in every circumstance.”

He sympathized with the affected student and his parents and assured them that after the enquiry report is submitted, strict action will be taken in this regard.

Pertinently, the department has issued suspension of the teacher and also constituted an enquiry committee to look into the matter.
