Clashes erupt in Anantnag areas after militant killings

Anantnag: Following the killing of two militants, clashes erupted between protesters and government forces in Duroo and Kulgam areas of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Reports said that as soon as the news about the killing of the militants spread in the area, youth from various villages in Anantnag took to streets and pelted stones on government forces who were deployed in and around the encounter site.

“Intense stone pelting and clashes have been reported in Bonadialgam, Dialgam villages of Anantnag,” witnesses said.

Meanwhile, forces resorted to tear smoke and sound shells in main town Kulgam after youth pelted stones on them.

Sources said that some youth assembled in main town Kulgam and started hurling rocks on forces deployed in the area which was retaliated by firing some tear smoke and sound shells, triggering clashes in the area.

Sources added that the students of Government Degree College Kulgam have also started protesting in college campus against the killing of two militants in Dooru area of Anantnag district.

Reportedly clashes are also going on in Qazigund area between forces and protesters.

Following the gunfight, internet services have been snapped in the area while train services have also been suspended by the authorities authorities.

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown is being observed in Kokernag area.
