FCS&CA Budgam realizes 1.7 lakh fine during current fiscal

Budgam: Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), Budgam has realized fine of Rs 1.7 lakh from 1248 shopkeepers during 3330 market checking conducted across the district during current fiscal.

Assistant Director FCS&CA Budgam Mushtaq Ahmad Kaloo, while sharing the details said that department during market checking realized fine of Rs 1.7 lakh from erring shopkeepers for violating the rate list, indulging in overcharging and selling poor quality food items.

The AD further informed that to ensure hassle-free supply of food grains to consumers across the district, 182 new Fair Price Shops were established in the district during the ongoing fiscal. While as 167040 new ration cards under different categories including BPL, NPHH and AAY were also provided to the consumers, he added.

He said that under National Food Security Act (NFSA), 440064 quintals of rice and ata were distributed among the consumers, while as under Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Food Entitlement Scheme (MMSFES), 109886 quintals of food grains were distributed among the consumers during ongoing fiscal.

Besides, 26141 quintals of sugar was distributed among the consumers under BPL and AAY categories, while as 3672000 litres of kerosene oil has  also been distributed among consumers

Meanwhile, the AD said that new Point of Sale (PoS) machines and Digital Weighing Scales were installed at the depots, besides frequent checks are being conducted by the officials to ensure transparency in the public distribution system.

The department has installed 374 PoS machines, 200 electronic scales and 374 rate list banners at its public distribution centres across the district.
