Farmers must be trained for latest tech to boost production, says Hanjura

Udhampur: Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura Friday said that there is a need of imparting training to farmers for using latest technology and adopt better agricultural practices especially in far-off and distantly located areas to boost agricultural production.

The Minister exhorted upon the Agriculture Department to take appropriate measures for providing the benefits of different schemes to the farmers to uplift  their socio-economic condition.

Hanjura said that the government is making all out efforts for sustained growth of agriculture sector by introducing several innovative measures to enable the farmers to get maximum returns from their land.

The Minister said this after inaugurating one-day exhibition cum Kisan Mela here.

Vice Chairman State Kissan Board, Daljit Singh Chib, Member Legislative Assembly Udhampur Pawan Kumar Gupta,  Deputy Commissioner Ravinder Kumar, Director Agriculture Jammu H.K Razdan, Chief  Agriculture Officer Udampur S.K Gandotra, Chief Horticulture Officer Brij Vallabh Gupta, besides other officers  and large number of farmers  attended the mela.

The Minister said that the purpose of organizing such programmes is to sensitize the farmers about new technology and high yielding variety of seeds being introduced in the agriculture sector to increase productivity and to provide better marketing facilities to the farmers.

He stressed upon the officers to ensure effective implementation of government schemes meant for farmer’s community. “This will help in achieving the target of doubling the income of farmers by 2022”, he asserted.

Later, the Minister inspected the stalls set up by various department and felicitated the progressive farmers.
