Tortured by suspected militants, youth succumbs to injuries

Anantnag: A 20 year old youth who was allegedly tortured by militants has succumbed to his injuries in a local hospital here, police sources said.

They said that on 8th of March Omais Rashid Bhat, a resident of Qoimoh was abducted by unknown persons and was tortured mercilessly. Though he was shifted to Srinagar for advanced treatment his condition failed to improvise and he succumbed to his injuries.

Meanwhile, the class 12 student, Omais was laid to rest at his ancestral village in Qoimoh where hundreds of people participated in his funeral prayers.

Omaise’s brother Irshad Ahmad Bhat said that on the fateful day he along with his brother was working in an orchard 8 till late afternoon.

“After I reached home and Omaise left to meet his friends, I recieved a phone call that Omaise has been injured in a mishap and he has been shifted to a local hospital,” he said.

However, when we reached the district hospital Kulgam we saw that he was beaten so ruthlessly that he couldn’t speak or even let us know who did this to him, said Irshad.

He said that he fainted in the hospital and after his condition worsened he was shifted to a Srinagar hospital.

Meanwhile, a senior police official of the district said that the matter is being investigated and a Deputy Superintendent of the police has been tasked to enquire the matter.

He said that police has registered an FIR vide number 4/18 under section 364 RPC and has taken up investigations into the case.
