Jammu: The government on Tuesday revoked the termination order against Dr Amit Kumar who was working as Registrar at Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu Department of Anaesthesia. The medico was sacked for posting comments on social networking site, Facebook that were ‘critical’ to the government.

Sources confirmed that the order has been revoked and Dr Amit Kumar has been asked to resume his duties from Wednesday.

Notably, the Resident Doctors Association (RDA) had threatened to launch a state wide agitation if the order was not revoked.

“The Principal GMC, Jammu Dr Sunanda Raina verbally directed Dr Amit to join his duty from Wednesday,” a RDA member said.

The Jammu and Kashmir government on Sunday terminated the services of the Registrar of the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu for, what it called as, his anti-government post on the social networking site Facebook.

Amit Kumar was sacked after that he allegedly ‘violated’ rules that are meant to prevent any government servant from using social media to write anti-government posts. Kumar was appointed for three year-contract to serve at the GMC Jammu as Registrar

The order issued said Kumar used his “Facebook account and commented with intent to ‘provoke’ readers,” the order copy said while invoking SRO 525.

“Dr Amit Kumar was Tuesday reinstated after he tendered an apology,” GMC principal Sunanda Raina said.

“The decision to reinstate the doctor was taken after Kumar apologised for violating the government order,” Raina said.

She said Kumar, along with senior leaders of the resident doctors association, met her and later the disciplinary panel decided to revoke the earlier order and reinstate him.

Kumar said he was informed by the principal that the order had been revoked.
