Protest in Sopore against shifting of Joint Dir Education Office

Sopore: Hundreds of people on Tuesday held a protest demonstration in North Kashmir’s Sopore town against the shifting of Joint Director Education’s office from Sopore to Baramulla.

The protesters included members from Civil society, Traders Federation, Beopar Mandal, Bar Association, Fruit growers and dealers association, Teachers forum, Transport association and Industrial estate Sopore under the banner of coordination committee Sopore.

The protesters took out a huge protest march from Iqbal market and raised slogans against state government for ‘ignoring’ Sopore on the development front.

“Being centrally located, Sopore is a feasible place for such offices for everyone, ” Abdul Majeed shah one of the protester from Bandipora said.

Addressing the huge gathering, Traders Federation Sopore President Haji Mohammad Ashraf said that Sopore has been alienated by the successive governments time and again.

The protesting coordination members appealed the government to stop playing with the aspirations of the people of Sopore and maintain the status of this geographically and economically important town of the valley.
