Cop guarding BJP leader injured in militant attack

Srinagar: A personal security officer (PSO) guarding the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leader was injured in a militant attack at Balhama area of Khanmoh in outskirts of Srinagar city on Thursday.

A senior police officer said that the BJP leader Mohammad Anwar Khan along with his two PSOs was fired upon by the militants at Balhama near Arash Medical College and they tried to snatch service rifles from them. The guards retaliated the fire and foiled their attempt.

In the meantime, the suspected militants fled away from the spot, the officer said adding that one of the policemen sustained bullet wounds in the incident.

Soon after the incident, the joint team of army, CRPF and Special Operation Group (SOG) of police cordoned off the whole area and launched a massive hunt to nab the assailants. Police have also registered a case under relevant sections of law in connection with the attack. (GNS)
