Cloudy weather to persist in plains, light snowfall to occur at higher reaches: MeT

Srinagar: While the intermittent light rains continued to lash Valley since the intervening night of Tuesday-Wednesday, the weatherman today predicted light snowfall in the upper reaches of the Valley.

Director Meteorological department (MeT), Sonum Lotus informed ‘Kashmir Vision’ that the weather in plains would remain cloudy. “There is possibility of light snowfall in upper reaches for the next 24 hours,” he said.

He said that there would be occasional sunshine as well.

Lotus said that except higher reaches there is no prediction of rains or snow across the Valley for the next 24 hours.

He said that the temperature across the Valley would also witness an increase as well.

Lotus informed that the higher reaches of the Valley received a fresh snowfall of few inches while the intermittent light rains occurred in plains. “According to the prediction, the weather conditions would improve from Thursday,” he said.

He informed that the higher reaches that include Zojila and its adjacent areas received fresh snowfall of 4 inches today.

Meanwhile, on the basis of information received from SASE, medium danger avalanche warning was issued on Wednesday for Kupwara-Chokibal-Tangdarh, Baramullah, gulmarg, Furkian-Z Gali, Gurez, Bandipora.

Earlier on Tuesday, Divisional Administration Kashmir had issued an avalanche warning for next 24-hours for hilly and avalanche prone areas of Kashmir Valley and Ladakh region.

“Avalanche warning valid for next 24-hours from March 13 to March 14, 2018, exists for avalanche prone slopes of Kupwara, Bandipora, Baramulla, Anantnag, Kulgam, Budgam, Ganderbal, Kargil and Leh districts of Kashmir Division,” a statement of the Divisional Administration had said.
