They ‘lived together and they died jointly’

Anantnag/Srinagar: Sabzar Ahmad @ Syed Owaise and Mohammad Ahsan @Eesa Fazili, the two local militants who studied together and perused engineering from a Rajouri University on Monday died in-concert during an encounter in south Kashmir’s Hakura village. Thousands of people later bid adieu to the two local militants who were killed in a quick operation.

Witnesses said that thousands of people, mostly youth reached Guhnoo Vailoo in Kokernag area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district and attended the funeral prayers of the slain militant, Syed Owais.

Men and women in large numbers thronged the native village of Owais despite restrictions in the area, they added.

“Six rounds of funeral prayers were offered for Owais before he was laid to rest in his native village,” an eyewitness said.

“Men and women were seen heading towards Syed’s house on two wheelers and on foot to take part in his funeral,” said a local.

He said that as the news about his death spread on Monday, large crowd gathered outside his home at Vailoo.

“As soon as his body reached home, women burst in mourning while men chanting pro-freedom and pro militant slogans as they carried his body,” he said.

Notably, Pro Zakir Musa slogans were also raised by the people, even as taranas were blaring out of masjid loudspeakers in the area.

Meanwhile, clashes were also erupted in Vailoo area between civilians and the government forces as soon as the funeral prayers ended.

Witnesses said that troopers fired tear smoke shells and pellets to disperse the stone pelting youth, a local said.

They said that several youth suffered injuries during the forces action.

Thousands of people on Monday participated in the funeral procession of the slain militant killed in a gunfight with government forces along with two of his associates in Hakoora area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district today morning.

Elsewhere, in thousands of mourners also attended the funeral of Easa Fazili who was also killed in the gunfight. 

Eesa Fazili, a resident of Soura area of Srinagar, along with his two associates were killed in an overnight gunfight with government forces in Hakoora.

In the morning, as soon as the slain militant’s body reached his Soura residence,  thousands of people gathered there to participate in the funeral prayers.

Amid pro-freedom, pro-Pakistan and anti-India slogans , slain Easa’s body was carried by mourners from his home to a local ground where his funeral prayers were held.

Owais and Eesa who were friends and were pursuing engineering from a university in Rajouri were killed in a brief shootout in South kashmir along with a non local.

Meanwhile, a TeM spokesperson in a statement issued to a local news agency said, that Indian forces cordoned off an area in south Kashmir and during the search operation.

“In the encounter, Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen district commander Muhammad Ehsan Fazili son of Muhammad Naeem Fazili alias Muhammad Eesa resident of Soura, Srinagar, and his associates Sabzar Ahmad Sofi were killed. Eesa had joined the ranks of Mujahideen ranks after completing B-Tech and rendered invaluable services for the movement. Syed Owais Shafi of Hizbul Mujahideen while fighting Indian forces also embraced martyrdom,” he said.
