Srinagar: The government is likely to confirm the appointment of Veena Pandita as Chairperson of the JK Board of School Education (JKBOSE).

Sources in the department said the department is likely to issue formal orders of her appointment in coming weeks.

“The department has decided to confirm Pandita as Chairperson as she is managing the post as officiating chairperson from August last year,” a top official in the department said.

The official said the government however, is indecisive about the appointment of Secretary BOSE.

“After Veena Pandita will be appointed as permanent Chairperson, the post of secretary will be left vacant. But, the government has not decided about this appointment,” he said.

Pertinently, Pandita was appointed as officiating chairman after former Chairman Zahoor Ahmad Chatt was repatriated to the parent department-higher education department.

As per the officials any senior principal of government Degree College who has his/her PhD degree and other publication under possession can be appointed as Chairman. “Same criteria are followed for the post of secretary as well,” the official said.

He said around two to three principals of degree colleges are into consideration of government for appointment of Secretary BOSE. “But the committee is yet to select the one among them for the post,” the official said.

It may be recalled that the successive regimes have continued a practice of having representatives from both the regions of Jammu and Kashmir for the   post of Chairman and Secretary of JKBOSE. If Chairman is from Jammu region then Secretary is appointed from Kashmir region and vice-versa.

“Presently, government has picked Chairman from Jammu region therefore the secretary has to be from Kashmir region,” the official said.

Notably, the government in August last had accorded sanction to the constitution of a search committee for the appointment of chairman BOSE.

The members of the committee include principal secretary higher education department, commissioner/secretary general administration department, secretary school education department, secretary department of law, Justice and parliamentary affairs and former secretary BOSE, Bashir Ahmad Dar.

“The search committee, which shall be serviced by the school education department, shall submit its panel of names to the government within one month,” the order reads.
