Srinagar: After a brief lull on the LoC in north Kashmir’s Uri sector, the armies of India and Pakistan exchanged heavy fire resulting in the injuries to one Indian soldier. The guns also roared in Poonch sector of Jammu division.

“An army man was injured in fresh ceasefire violation by Pakistan army at Jane Peer Baba post in Uri sector last night” a senior defence official said.

The injured soldier has been identified as Param Veer Singh of 17 JAT regiment. Sources said that he was shifted to the 92 base hospital in Srinagar for treatment.

Earlier, the armies of both the countries exchanged fire and mortar fire along the LoC in Poonch sector of Jammu.

A defense spokesman said that the Pakistan army initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing of small arms, automatics and mortars from 0930 hours in Poonch sector along the LoC in Rajouri district.

“The Indian Army retaliated strongly to the ceasefire violation by the Pakistani army,” he said. However, there was no report of any causality from the area.

It may be recalled that Pakistan troops shelled Sunderbani and Keri areas in Rajouri district, and Khour area in Akhnoor sector of Jammu district on Wednesday.
