Elderly man’s death sparks protest in Delina Baramulla

BARAMULLA: The death of an elderly man  has sparked protests in Delina area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday.

As soon as news about the death of the elderly killed by a police vehicle Wednesday night, spread in the area people hit the roads shouting pro-freedom, pro-Pakistani and anti-government forces slogans.

The protesters had gathered yesterday night at Delina and throughout the night ‘taranas’ were being played on the loudspeakers amid high pitched sloganeering.

The protests have refused to die down and were going on until today with locals terming the incident as ‘target killing’.

Consequently, heavy deployment of forces has been made across the village as a ‘precautionary measure’.

Meanwhile, Police in a statement said that an elderly man died after being hit by vehicle on late Wednesday night. The driver of Police vehicle was arrested and a case was also registered in this regard, police said.

Meanwhile authorities have suspended internet services and railway services in Baramulla as a precautionary measure.
