Sopore observes complete shutdown against Shopian killings

SOPORE:  The Sopore town in north Kashmir observed a complete shutdown on Wednesday following the call of Joint Resistance Leadership against shifting of prisoners from Kashmir to outside jails and the recent killings of six persons by government forces in south Kashmir’s Shopian shootout.

All business establishments and educational institutions remain shut in town, while as public transport was plying thin on roads. The other business establishments and Government offices also remain closed in the town. However, government forces were deployed at main Chowk, main Bazaar, Shah Dargah Chowk and Chankhan areas to prevent any untoward incidents.

The shutdown call was given by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), a pro-freedom conglomerate of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Yasin Malik.
