On the day of opening, schools ordered to ‘close down’ for three days

Srinagar: The government on Monday ordered for closure of all educational institutions till Wednesday in Kashmir.

The decision has been taken as a ‘precautionary measure’ to avoid “law and order situation” in Kashmir.

Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK), GN Itoo said all the government and private schools and colleges will remain closed on Tuesday and Wednesday and will resume functioning from Thursday.

“The schools and colleges will remain closed on Tuesday and Wednesday and will reopen on Thursday,” DSEK GN Itoo said.

Meanwhile, the authorities in Kashmir University (KU) also ordered for suspension class work in the varsity for Tuesday and deferred all the exams scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.

“The class work in Kashmir University will remain suspended on March 06 while as all the exams scheduled on Tuesday and Wednesday have been postponed,” official spokesman of the Kashmir University said. He said the fresh dates for the deferred examinations will be notified separately, later.

Also, the Board of School Education (BOSE) postponed all the exams scheduled for March 6 and 7.

Chairperson, BOSE Veena Pandita said the exams slated for Tuesday and Wednesday have been postponed and “fresh dates will be notified later separately.”

Pertinently, the schools were supposed to open on Monday after two month long winter vacations however, the authorities decided to close down the institutions following the civilian killing in Shopian on Sunday evening.

Four civilian and a militant was killed by Army in Shopian resulting in Valley wide resentment which prompted authorities to close down the educational institutions on Monday and later extended the closure for next two days.

Interestingly, the directorate of school education has chalked out a new academic calendar wherein it has decided to compensate the working days on Holidays if the schools remain closed on any day due to any law and order situation. The academic calendar has been made in order to avoid delay in completion of syllabus of students.
