Theft case solved, property worth Rs 21 lac recovered

Kupwara: Police on Friday claimed to have solved a burglary case and recovered property worth Rs 21 lacs.

According to reports, Police Station Sogam received a written application from Showkat Ahmad Mir, son of Mohd Amin Mir, resident of Gulgam Kupwara on Jan 02 this year.

“During intervening night of 20/21-02-2018, two persons identified as Mohammad Akbar Sofi, son of Yalfaan Sofi and Dineshwar Kumar, son of Ram Das Kumar both residents of Village Sitapur District Supaul Bihar decamped DG Track System worth almost Rs 21 Lacs from Doniwari Lolab,” police officials said.

On this information, FIR No. 01/2018 under section 457, 380 RPC was registered in PS Sogam and investigation set into motion.

Keeping in view, the huge cost of stolen property, a SIT headed by Adil Rishu DySP SHO PS Sogam was constituted under the supervision DySP Lolab Sarfaraz Bashir.

The team raided different locations in the state and rounded-up many suspects. “Based on some leads a team was deputed to Bihar,” officials said.

The team with the help of Bihar Police has questioned some suspects who were working in Lolab area as labourers.

“The theft case was solved after arrest of main accused namely Mohd Akbar Sofi, son of Yalfaan Sofi, resident of Village Sitapur District Supaul Bihar who has confessed his involvement in the case,” police said.

On the disclosure of accused, the stolen property including different items of Digital Acoustic Sensor System used for laying optical fiber cables worth Rs 21 Lacs was recovered from different locations of District Supaul of Bihar.

“The other accused is still absconding and efforts are being made for his arrest,” police said.
