Rains lash Kashmir plains; snowfall in upper reaches

Srinagar: Rains lashed the plains in Kashmir valley and parts of Pir Panjal on Friday while higher reaches received fresh snow.

Reports of fresh snowfall were received from ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir, Pahalgam in south Kashmir and upper reaches of Banihal, Jawahar Tunnel, Ramban and Patnitop areas.

The weatherman has predicted more rains and snow for at least another day.

Meanwhile, traffic on the Srinagar – Jammu national highway, connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, has been suspended following landslides, and shooting stones triggered by rain, a traffic police official said.

He said due to bad weather and landslides at Maroog , Digdal and Panthyal traffic on the highway was suspended as a precautionary measure.
