Sopore: Contractors associated with ‘Electro-Mech Association ‘of North Kashmir Thursday staged protest in Sopore against the authorities for taking up new financial measures, which according to the protesters would result in huge loss to them.

The contractors chanted slogans and demanded government to not to initiate a new financial measure in the current year.

They said that the various government departments including PHE, Flood Control and Irrigation, R&B and other departments have taken up new financial measures to enforce financial discipline in the state.

“We would welcome these measures if initiated or launched in the next financial year so that the liabilities under various heads over many years could be released on time,” they said.

The protesting contractors said that the government departments usually release the payment of contractors at the end of financial year and at the same time initiating such measures could result in loss to thousands of contractors.

The protesting contractors appealed the government especially Finance Minister to look into the matter and redress their grievances at an earliest.
