Tral shuts for 3rd consecutive day to mourn Chopan’s death

Pulwama: A complete shutdown was Wednesday observed in Tral sub division of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district for third consecutive day against the killing of imprisoned militant, Mushtaq Ahmad Chopan who according to the police was killed in a grenade blast.

According to the Police, Mushtaq Ahmad Chopan, resident of Waged village in Aripal Tral was killed on Monday afternoon after militants lobbed a grenade at police station Tral.

A cop had also sustained injuries in the grenade attack.

Police had said that Chopan tried to escape while other militants, in order to divert the attention of forces hurled a grenade, which exploded near Mushtaq, resulting in his on spot death.

Police has already launched a magisterial inquiry into the incident.

Eyewitnesses said that all the shops, educational institutions and business establishments remained closed while the traffic was also off the roads.

Mushtaq was affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen and was arrested in Watlab area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district along with weapons on January 7.
