Forces resort to aerial firing in Watchi Shopian

Shopian: Government forces on Thursday evening resorted to aerial firing after some youth pelted stones on their vehicle in Dabalpora Watchi village in Zainapora sub-district of southern Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Local sources said after forces’ vehicle was stoned and the forces then fired round about 25 shots due to which mirrors of a nearby shopping complex got damaged.

“Forces barged into the Shop of Gh Rasool Bhat and dragged him outside after which he was ruthlessly beaten” witnesses alleged.

They added that his family members including his sons namely Rouf Rasool Bhat, Javaid Ahmed Bhat and daughter in law namely Arifee Jan came in to his rescue however forces thrashed them too and left all of them injured.

They all have been hospitalised, they said  while adding that after many locals assembled, forces left the area.

On contacting station house officer Zainapora Tawseef Ahmed, he confirmed that army resorted to aerial firing after their vehicle was stoned in the area.

“We don’t have any report about anyone being thrashed or any property being damaged, nevertheless,  we will look into it” the officer said.
