Chinar tree poses threat in Sopore

Sopore: The residents living in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district are living under constant threat posed by a hundred year old Chinar tree, located at Noor bagh four lane at bypass road.

A group of locals told Kashmir Vision that an old Chinar tree has become a living threat to commuters, transporters, school children and the residents as well.

Farooq Ahmad, a local resident said that the Chinar tree can fall anytime as it too old. “It will be better to cut the tree instead new saplings should be planted,” he said.

He said that apart from dry trees, many dangling electricity poles are also a cause of concern for the residents.

“Though the issue was brought to the notice of the authorities but no steps were taken,” said Amir Dar, a shopkeeper.

Officials in the forest department said that they have received no such applications in this regard.

However, officials in revenue department said they can’t cut down such trees without the permission of higher authorities.
