Three feared dead in Lolab avalanche

Srinagar: Three persons are feared dead after the trio came under snow avalanche at Lashkote forest area of Dardpora, Lolab in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, reports quoting officials said.

Police sources said that the trio had gone for hunting and came under snow avalanche this afternoon at Lashkote- the top forest area of Darpora, which connects Lolab and Bandipora forest areas.

The persons who came under snow avalanche are reportedly feared dead who according to the place officials were identified as Ghulam Mohammad Lone, son of Ali Mohammad, Mohammad Altaf, son of Safdar, residents of Warnow and Bashir Ahmad, son of Ghulam Rasool, resident of Dardipora Lalpora.

Lashkote is the top forest area of Dardpora which connecting Kupwara-Bandipora areas where the mudslide occurred.

SP Kupwara Shamsheer Hussain said that so far we have received information that three persons were trapped in the incident.

“A police party has been deputed to the area to launch the rescue operation,” SSP said.

The police in on its official twitter handle said that the rescue operation is on.

“03 persons Ghulam Mohammad Lone S/O Ali Mohammad, Mohammad Altaf S/O Safdar R’s/O Warnow and Bashir Ahmad S/O Ghulam Rasool R/O Dardipora Lalpora came under snow avalanche at Gochibal Behak J/D of P/S  Lalpora, District Kupwara.  Rescue operation  going on,” JK Police tweeted. (With inputs from GNS)
