Srinagar: Decrying ‘communalization’ over the rape-and-murder of eight-year-old Kathua girl, Aasifa Bano, the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) Thursday demanded that the accused involved in the case should be hanged till death.

The JLR comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik while addressing media persons said that the government is dividing the people on communal lines.

“Come what may people from Kashmir will always stand by their Muslim brethren in Jammu and will not leave them alone,” the leaders said.

The trio also said that the democracy of India has got exposed after the legislator from the ruling regime and the group known as ‘Hindu Ekta March’ took to streets to protest the arrest of rapist, besides threatening the Muslims living in Jammu and the Gujjar community as well.

They also termed the use of Indian National flag during these protests in favour of the rapist as ‘blot on democracy’.

Notably, Geelani and Mirwaiz addressed the media persons telephonically while Malik was present at Abi Guzar who briefed media persons about the situation in Jammu at present.

Geelani who continues to remain under house detention addressed the gathering telephonically and said that such heinous crimes are against the principals of every religion while the rape and murder case of Kathua minor girl is a blot on humanity, which is highly condemnable.

“People demand that the accused should be hanged till death. The demand should be supported by every individual. It stands our fundamental responsibility to eradicate such kind of brute persons from the society,” he said.

He said that PDP and its coalition partner BJP are trying to divide the people on communal lines.

“As the two parties are trying to divide people on communal lines, the rape and murder case of Aasifa is being communalized. The Gujjar families are being threatened which will not be tolerated at all,” he said.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who also addressed media persons telephonically said that the BJP is not only trying to save the accused but are also resorting to violent protests in his favour.

He said that despite murdering the minor girl ‘brutally’, the BJP is shielding the ‘rapist and murderer’, while under the banner of ‘Hindu Ekta Manch’, the victim family is being harassed and threatened.

“Nothing can be more evil and shameless than supporting the rapists and murderers of an 8 year old girl child and then threatening the community to which the child belonged with dire consequence! It reflects the total moral bankruptcy of BJP in supporting the front that is threatening the Gujjars in Kathua and completely exposes its communal and anti humanity mindset for reaping political dividends,” he said.

Malik told reporters that the Jammu Muslims are being victimized. “Since Kathua incident took place, the situation in Jammu and has turned ugly as the Muslims and Gujjar community is being threatened. The fascist government has got exposed after the ‘Hindu Ekta Manch’ openly supported the murderer of Kathua girl and are threatening the community,” he said.

He said that since the fascist government took over in New Delhi, the minority communities including Sikhs, Muslims, Christians are being harassed on one pretext or the other.

Malik said that the Indian democracy has got exposed before the world after the Kathua incident took place.

“The whole nation is united over the Kathua rape and murder case while as the Joint Resistance Leadership has resolved to fight for seeking justice to Asifa. We demand all the accused should be hanged,” Malik said.

He said that the Jammu Muslims won’t be left alone. “We (Kashmiris) will stand by their side every time,” he said.

Soon after the presser concludes, Malik along with JRL activists and leaders tried to carry out a protest rally to stage a protest against the rape and murder of Aasifa.

However, dozens of leaders and activists including Malik and Parveena Ahanger were detained and were lodged at a nearby Police Station.
