Handwara: Authorities on Wednesday detained Awami Itehaad Party (AIP) president and MLA Langate, Engineer Abdul Rasheed Sheikh at Handwara when he was on way to Kupwar to protest against the arrest of youth under PSA, a spokesman said.

According to the statement issued here, Er Rasheed said after being detained at Handwara has begun indefinite hunger strike inside the police station this morning to press for the demands of releasing the detained youth.

Party spokesman Adv. Maajid Banday said that Er. Rasheed had planed an indefinite fast outside DC Office Kupwara for the reason that state administration not only didn’t release those innocents booked previously under the draconian PSA, but continued with its ‘harsh and draconian measures’.

The spokesman accused Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti of surrendering the rights of Kashmiris to security agencies and alleged that there is no rule of law in Kashmir.

“If government doesn’t allow an elected MLA to have a peaceful sit-in where is the space for a common man in Kashmir,” he said.

The spokesman added that detaining Er. Rasheed again and again speaks volume of helplessness of political dispensation and world community should take notes of state terrorism in Kashmir.

Meanwhile, AIP in the statement issued later in evening said that the MLA Langate has ended his day long fast this evening after reaching an agreement with the administration regarding detunes booked under PSA.

In this regard, a consensus was reached after deliberations between administration headed by ADC Handwara and Er Rasheed at Police Station Handwara.

“Administration agreed to release few of detainees and it was also agreed that administration will recommend for revoking PSA of few others,” the statement said.
