Geelani undergoes medical tests at SKIMS

Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Saturday underwent a check-up at SKIMS Soura.

Hurriyat in its statement issued here said that Geelani, who is suffering from multiple ailments, also underwent a “thorough urology check-up” and doctors attending him advised ultra sound and other investigations to assess the extent of infection of various organs.

The statement added that he was accompanied by his son Syed Naseem Geelani.

“Geelani has already been put on a pacemaker and as such after interval of three months needs cardiac check-up to assess the functioning of the pacemaker,” the statement said.

After the check-up, Geelani visited JKLF chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik to inquire the health condition of the ailing leader and extended his wishes and prayed for Malik’s speedy recovery.

Meanwhile, Hurriyat said that police detained its chief spokesperson Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar and he was lodged at police station Shairgari and added that scores of pro-freedom leaders including Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai and Mohammad Ashraf Laya are under house detention since last week.

The statement added that police also arrested Umer Aadil Dar and Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader Shah Wali Mohammad and detained them in Nowgam and Sopore police stations, while as Hurriyat leaders Mohammad Yaseen Ataiee and Syed Imtiyaz Haider also has been arrested and lodged in police station Budgam.

Condemning the authorities, Hurriyat termed the detention as ‘undemocratic and unconstitutional, saying repressive and arbitrary measures won’t deter them from pursuing their mission.

Meanwhile, the amalgam strongly condemned the re-arrest of Javed Ahmad Mir (Lolab).

Mir was lodged in District jail Kupwara and was released by court on bail, said Hurriyat, however soon after his release, police rearrested him from his residence and shifted to unknown destination.

Hurriyat strongly condemned the arrest of three close relatives of Nazir Ahmad Khaja (Seelu Sopore) including his brother in laws Mohammad Maqbool, Mohammad Asadullah, and Khizir Mohammad.

The statement said that Nazir Ahmad is a prominent party activist and stating police action as ‘political vendetta’, said that his brother was arrested some 20 days before and till now is in police custody.
