Sopore: The residents of Behrampora village of rafiabad area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday staged protest against Power Development Department (PDD) for ‘forcing them to reel under darkness’.

Inhabitants including women and men blocked the Watergam-Sopore road for several hours amidst shouting slogans against the department.

The protesting residents were demanding immediate redressal of their ‘genuine’ grievances.

The residents said that they are facing immense hardships due to the unscheduled power cuts since last month.

The protesting inhabitants told ‘Kashmir Vision’ that due to unscheduled power cuts the education of their wards has got adversely affected as they are unable to study without electricity during the evening hours.

Fayaz Ahmad Lone, a local resident said that the electricity in their area is playing hide and seek from the past one month, which has left the entire area to brace the cold winter chill without any arrangements of heating.

The protesters demanded the authorities to look into the matter and fulfill their demands at an earliest.

Meanwhile, an official of the PDD said that the power cuts have increased due to the overload.

However, he appealed people to avoid the redundant use of electric appliances including heaters and boilers, which according to him lead to unscheduled power cuts.
