Speaker blames presence of Rohingyas for Jammu attack

Jammu: Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta on Saturday sparked off a major controversy claiming that the attack on an army camp at Sunjwan in Jammu took place due to presence of Rohingya refugees in the area.

“The incident took place due to presence of Rohingyas in the area,” Gupta said.

The remarks drew sharp reaction from the opposition, who accused him of targeting a particular community.

“The Speaker should apologize for his remarks. We will not allow the House to run until Speaker apologizes for his remarks,” the opposition demanded.

The entire opposition stormed into the well to protest against the Speaker’s controversial remarks.

Earlier, BJP resorted to massive anti-Pakistan sloganeering in the House.

Schools closed around Sunjawan camp in Jammu

Jammu: Authorities today ordered closure of schools in Sunjawan belt of Jammu city in the wake of the terror attack on an Army camp.

Three to four militants stormed the Army camp at Sunjawan, leaving three persons injured

“We have ordered closure of schools in Sunjawan area as a precautionary measure in the wake of the terror attack,” a senior official said.
